ShotLab Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 31, 2026
ShotLab ("we", "our", "the app") is a bowling shot-tracking and coaching tool. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how it's handled.
What we collect
- Account info: when you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google. We use this only to identify your account.
- Gameplay data: the shots, sessions, notes, ball arsenal, and settings you enter into the app. This is stored in our database (Google Firestore) tied to your account so your data is there when you come back.
- Usage analytics: we collect usage events tied to a random app-instance identifier (no names, emails, or account identity); Google Analytics for Firebase processes these on our behalf. The events tell us which features get used and how often, so we can improve the app. Google also estimates a rough location, down to your city, from your internet connection, and keeps the detailed usage data for up to 14 months.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data.
- We don't run ads or ad-tracking SDKs in this app.
- We don't share your gameplay data with anyone, with two exceptions: the AI services that produce a Coach answer when you ask for one, and, during the beta, the AI tools that check those answers. The sections below say exactly what they get.
How Coach uses AI
Ask Coach is answered by AI services, not by a person. When you ask Coach a question, we send what it needs to answer: your question, the earlier turns of that conversation, and the parts of your record the question is about (your games and sessions, the pins you left, your lines, your balls, your handedness, and the first name you typed into your profile). Three services process that on our behalf:
- Anthropic (Claude) writes the answer from your question and your record.
- TypeSafe helps Coach work out what kind of question you asked. It gets your question, the recent conversation, and the facts Coach is currently looking at.
- Google Cloud (Vertex AI) turns your question into a search key so Coach can find the right bowling knowledge. It gets the question text, not your games.
They process each request under their business terms and we don't send them your email address or your Google account. We don't use your games to train AI models. If you never ask Coach, none of your data goes to any of them. You can delete any Coach conversation from inside the app.
Checking Coach's answers during the beta
While ShotLab is in beta, Ask Coach is free for select beta testers. To make Coach better, AI tools check Coach's answers to select beta testers for mistakes. When an answer looks wrong, the ShotLab team may look at that example to fix it. The team sees what the tools find, with short excerpts, not whole conversations. A chat you mark Something off is the exception: the team sees that whole chat, with the games it was about, even if you keep the rest of your chats private.
Before anything is checked, we remove your profile name and account email. We skip conversations you've deleted. We only check messages sent after the app told you about this; earlier messages in an older chat are not checked, unless you mark that chat Something off, which sends the whole chat. We keep review copies on our own computer and send them to Anthropic (Claude) to check the answers. We never publish them. We delete them 30 days after they're checked. If you delete a conversation or make your chats private later, we delete our copies the next time we check. We don't use them to train AI models.
To keep your chats private, tap Keep my chats private when Coach first tells you about this, or use Coach chats in Settings. You still get Coach either way. Coach is free during the beta. If Coach becomes a paid feature, conversations from paid accounts won't be checked.
Where data lives
Your account and gameplay data are stored with Google Firebase/Firestore, Google's cloud infrastructure. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections.
Your choices
You can delete your account and associated data by contacting us (see Contact, below).
Changes to this policy
We'll update the date at the top of this page when this policy changes, and note material changes in the app.
